Morrisson-Reeves Library’s Board of Trustees is conducting two public hearings regarding its planned building renovation and equipment and technology purchases.

The first hearing is 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at the library, 80 N. Sixth St., Richmond. The board will discuss and hear residents’ objections and support regarding the project.

A second hearing will take place at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, for the same purpose and also to consider the adoption of a resolution making a preliminary determination to issue bonds to finance the project.

According to the library’s website, the renovation plans include enhanced accessibility; usable outdoor areas for reading, relaxing and community engagement; more meeting rooms for community groups and library programs; an adaptable event space capable of accommodating up to 500 people; expanded youth and teen areas; a dedicated history/genealogy center; a new business center with tech resources and support; and a Friends of the Library store for ongoing book sales.

Library officials announced last November that they aimed to address critical architecture, mechanics, structure, site and safety issues identified in the facilities assessment, create a more accessible and inclusive environment, modernize technological infrastructure, and enhance collaborative and community gathering spaces.
