Note: this calculator does not submit your obituary to us. Please contact us to place an obituary.

Obituaries must be paid in advance. (If you work with a funeral home that will be placing obituaries on a regular basis, please contact us to establish additional payment terms.)

Placement Deadline

Obituaries should be submitted and paid for as early as possible to ensure they can run in the next edition of the paper.

Our regular deadline is to receive an obituary by end of the day Thursday to run in the following week’s Wednesday paper. When space and our production process allow, we can sometimes accept additional obituaries after that time.

If you know you will be submitting an obituary but don’t have it ready yet, please contact us anyway so we can make arrangements to hold space for you.

Photo Guidelines

We are only able to run one photo per obituary.

Photos and obituaries are always printed in black and white.

We usually crop obituary photos to have the person’s head fill up most of the frame. If you prefer a different cropping, please let us know when submitting your obituary.

Photos should be submitted as JPEG files or a similar photo format, at a large size and high resolution. Low-resolution or under-sized photos will not look good in print and we may not be able to run them at all.

Other Guidelines

We rely on those placing obituaries to ensure that names, dates and times are correct before submitting.

We generally run obituaries as submitted, though we reserve the right to make minor edits for style and clarity.

If you would like the obituary to be published on our website in addition to the print version, please let us know when submitting the obituary.

We do not print obituaries for non-human deaths; these may be submitted as paid display ads.

We are not able to provide advance proofs for approval of obituaries published in print. Obituaries are laid out on the page right before being submitted to our printer. Here’s an example of how an obituary will look in print:

How to Submit an Obituary

The best way to submit an obituary is to email the final obituary text and a photo to us at contact@westernwaynenews.com. You can also drop off a typed or hand-written obituary to the drop box at the front door of our Cambridge City office, at 26 W Church St., Cambridge City, IN 47327.

Please include your full contact information including phone number, email address if available, and mailing address.

One of our team members will review your message and follow up as soon as possible with confirmation of pricing and the next available publication date for the obituary to run.

For payment, we offer the convenient option to pay online by credit/debit card or bank ACH transfer, and we will send you instructions for this. You can also bring a check made out to Western Wayne News to the drop box at the front door of our Cambridge City office, at 26 W Church St., Cambridge City, IN 47327. If you mail a check, it may not arrive before our prepayment deadline, delaying the publication of the obituary.

Free Death Notices

If you do not want to place a paid obituary but instead want your loved one’s name to appear in our free death notices section, please contact us with this information: your loved one’s full name, their age at the time of death, the date of death, their city of residence, and the name of any funeral home you might be working with (optional).
