The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County announced Sept. 25 that Chief Executive Officer Alicia Painter will resign in late November after 15 years of service with the youth organization.

Painter has held a variety of leadership roles since joining the organization, including camp director, program director and director of operations, before becoming CEO in 2021, a news release said.

The organization says Painter’s four years as CEO have been a period of growth and investment. With Painter at the helm, BGCWC opened the Club Teen Center and the West End Bank Charitable Foundation Professional Development & Training Center, renovated the Ronald L. McDaniel Foundation Club, and secured naming rights for the Wayne Bank Boys & Girls Club. Membership grew to more than 2,000 youth — about 21% of Wayne County’s school-aged children, the release said.

Painter also boosted staff support, expanding workplace well-being programs and extending paid time off to part-time employees. In 2023, the Club received the Wayne County Athena Organizational Leadership Award recognizing its culture of advancing women in leadership.

“Boys & Girls Club has been more than a career to me; it has been a calling and a community. Together, we have strengthened programs, expanded services and created opportunities that have touched countless young people,” Painter said in the news release.

In the release, board president Jeff Logue praised Painter for guiding the organization through a transformative period. The board will partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of America on a nationwide CEO search.
