Robert Funkhouser

Robert Eugene (Bob) Funkhouser, 99, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away February 24, 2026. He was born January 26, 1927, in Dunreith, Indiana, to Fay and Hazel Funkhouser.

Bob grew up in Cambridge City. After graduating from Lincoln High School, he served in the army in Japan during the occupation at the end of World War II.

In 1947, he married Marilyn Strohmier. Together they operated Funkhouser Truck Service for 27 years, a business started by his father in 1929. Bob and Marilyn retired to Florida, spending over 30 years in Wauchula.

Bob enjoyed boating, golf, shuffleboard, and many other activities. He was also good at making something useful out of nothing, known by family as “Funkhouserizing.”

Survivors include Marilyn, his wife of 79 years, daughter Julie Vance (Steven), son Robert K. Funkhouser, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donal and James, and sister Jean Clifton Carey.

A memorial will be planned at a later date.
