Ophelia “Kitty” Roberts, 100, went to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Saturday, April 2, 2022 in New Castle, Indiana.
She was born on October 11, 1921 in Bath County, Kentucky, a daughter of Lewis Pinkard and Verdia (Surratt) Alley.
Kitty graduated high school and attended Morehead State University where she was a Majorette for the Marching Band. She moved to Indiana during WWII to work for Dana Corporation and met and married Bob Murray. Kitty later moved back to Kentucky and taught 7th and 8th grade classes for Salt Lick, KY schools and was later married to, Forest E. Roberts. Kitty enjoyed working outside in the yard and flower gardens at her home in Kentucky that she cared for until the age of 95. She also enjoyed taking trips and spending time with her sisters. Kitty was a dear member of the Farmers Christian Church in Farmers, Kentucky where she faithfully attended and loved her church family.
Those left to cherish her memory include a son Gary (wife: Sandy) Murray of New Castle, IN; two granddaughters, Angela Lynn Duncan and Andrea Dee Murray of Greenville, SC; great-granddaughters, Sophia Lynn Duncan, Lily Marie Duncan and Avni Adele Keith; two siblings, Dorothy Messmaker of Crown Point, IN and Margaret Pfander of Tuscan, AZ; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert Sue Alley of Farmers, KY and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Forest Roberts, who passed on April 3, 1988; siblings, Lucille Harrison, Vivian Roberts and Robert Alley.
Kitty’s family deeply appreciates the special care and support given by her niece, Sandy Brotherton.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Farmers Christian Church in Farmers Kentucky with Pastor Billy Noble officiating. Burial will follow at New Alfrey Cemetery.
