Nellie Margaret Cramer Wages, age 102, formerly of Richmond, Indiana, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022, at Otterbein (Franklin United Methodist Community) in Franklin.
Nellie was born on November 30, 1919, in East Point, Georgia, to Mentor Cicero and Lou Ella Brookshire Johnson. Her family moved to Hunt Street in Richmond when she was three years old, and she lived in Richmond and nearby New Westville, Ohio, much of her life. Nellie was a homemaker extraordinaire. In later life, she was a member of Beit Chayim Body of Messiah, located at 317 South 5th Street in Richmond. Nellie and her husband, Glen, enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada and especially enjoyed their extended trips to Alaska and Nova Scotia and their winters in Zephyrhills, Florida. She made lasting friendships wherever she lived. Nellie and her second husband, Mark, remained in Richmond during her later years and continued to enjoy attending Beit Chayim together. Most of all, she loved spending time with her large extended family which grew rapidly with the addition of the Wages children.
Survivors include her daughter, Joyce E. (John) Brumbaugh of Beech Grove, Indiana; stepsons, Bruce (Donna) Wages of Richmond, Phil (Linda) Wages of New Paris, Ohio, Darve (Smyra) Wages of Richmond, and Dean (Michele) Wages of Liberty Township, Ohio; grandchildren, Denise L. Allen of Indianapolis, Indiana, Cheryl A.B. (Chris) Williams of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Debbie E. Binder of Zionsville, Indiana, Kelley R. Hudson of Littleton, Colorado, and Stephanie N. (Mike) Gillespie of Jacksonville, Florida. As her life continued, Nellie was blessed with additional grandchildren, including step-grandchildren and a caboodle of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Joe Wanda Cramer, of Los Alamos, New Mexico, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Glen P. Cramer, who passed away September 11, 1999; husband of 12 years, Mark Wages, who passed away August 8, 2016; daughter, Caroll L. Cramer Wages, who passed away March 15, 2012; cherished parents; sisters, Lela Caskey and Thelma “Samie” Pasill; and brothers, William “Bill”, Lawson, Floyd, Joe, Robert Lee, Carmonee, Eules, Daniel, Roy, and Jessie “Lamar” Johnson.
Visitation for Nellie Margaret Cramer Wages will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2022, at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. James Bean officiating. Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2022, in Earlham Cemetery.
