Michael B. “ShowDogg” Showalter, 64, of Fountain City, passed away on Saturday, March 19.
Mike was born in Winchester, Indiana on August 11, 1957 to Ralph & Barbara Campbell Showalter. Mike grew up in Fountain City and was a 1976 graduate of Northeastern High School, where he excelled on the basketball court.
Mike began a career in law enforcement in 1981 when he joined the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department. He was promoted to Jail Commander by Sheriff Jerry Williams and continued to serve in that capacity during Sheriff Matt Strittmatter’s two terms before retiring in 2011. Mike was a gentle soul who performed many acts of kindness for many people, often anonymously.
Mike will be missed by his wife of 32 years, the former Karen Laymon; daughter, Aimee Pasquier; granddaughters Aylia Rae Alberts and Vivienne Soleil Pasquier; brother & sister-in-law, Dave & Cathy Showalter; niece, Krista Barnett & husband, Brandon; nephew, David Robert Showalter; great-nieces, Gracie Showalter, Josie Showalter, Olivia Barnett and Gemma Barnett; great-nephew, Blake Waters; bonus niece Rebekah Miller; bonus cousin, Candy Miller; and last but not least, his faithful Bulldog companion, Lucy.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Peter Pasquier.
