Marilyn (Dobbs) Upchurch passed away peacefully while she was surrounded by her family on January 31, 2022 at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle, IN. She was born on June 27, 1932 to Dewitt & Julia Dobbs. She was 89 years old.

Marilyn was a longtime employee of Henry County Memorial Hospital. She served in multiple facets for 40 years and retired out of the Radiology Department. She was also known for her sales of Avon in the community.

She enjoyed spending time in her garden, harvesting and canning the vegetables that were produced. She even had a 30’ Grape vine that provided Jelly for many years for the family. Marilyn loved her family, she was always there for them, providing for their needs. Her grandchildren even recall the memories of all the candy that was available to them on their visits.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 48 years, Luther C. “Duke” Upchurch in 2017; her brothers, Robert “Bob” Dobbs and Ronnie Dobbs; a sister, Mary Catherine (Age 2), a son-in-law, Junior Patton in 2017 and by her first husband, Herbert L. Shelton in 1966.

Survivors include her children, two daughters, Connie Patton of New Castle and Becky (John) Rowe of Centerville; three sons, Dan Upchurch of Tulare California, Jeff (Susan) Shelton of New Castle and David (Scott Taylor) Upchurch of Sun City Center, Florida. She is also survived by three sisters, Betty Goble, Carolyn Crabtree and Marty Jones all of New Castle; one brother, Paul Dobbs of Missouri; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild with one more on the way.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Rev. Trevor Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition.

Friends may call from 4 – 8 pm Monday at the funeral home.

In Lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Henry Community Foundation to further enhance healthcare throughout Henry County or the HCHF C/O Michele Underwood 1000 N. 16th Street New Castle, IN 47362

Marilyn’s family would like to thank the staff at Glen Oaks Health Campus for the wonderful care and love they showed Marilyn during her seven years there.
