Jane Ronald Raglin nee Jane Ellen Ronald was born on March 21, 1947 in Richmond, IN to Dorothy Walton and James Hall Ronald. She passed away on April 16, 2022. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Alan Raglin, her son Jeffrey Scott Raglin (Tracy Jacquemin) of Mountain View, CA, her son Christopher Alan Raglin (Julie Raglin) of Canton, GA, and her brother Bruce Ronald of Lexington, KY. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Benjamin Alan Raglin and Emily Elizabeth Raglin both of Canton, GA, five nieces and nephews and twenty-five first cousins. Jane was proceeded in death by her parents James Hall Ronald and Dorothy Walton Ronald and by her brother James Douglas Ronald (Karen Ronald) of Muncie, IN.
Jane graduated from Richmond Senior High School in the class of 1965 as a member of the National Honor Society and from Hood College in Frederick, MD in 1969. She maintained very close relationships with her early development (the 21st Street Gang) and high school friends throughout the years.
Jane married her lifetime soul mate Kenneth Alan Raglin in 1969 and joined the Navy! They lived in Southport, MA, Newport News, VA (twice), and Concord, CA before her husband left the Navy. Then they lived in Herndon, VA, Brookeville, MD, and Chattanooga, TN (twice and for nearly 40 total years). Their sons, Jeffrey Scott Raglin and Christopher Alan Raglin were raised in Chattanooga, TN.
Jane accompanied her husband Ken on several business trips before his retirement from the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which helped nurture their desire for more future foreign travel. They were able to visit in the homes of his colleagues in Kiev, Ukraine and Moscow, Russia. They also entertained them while they were on reciprocal visits in Tennessee. After retirement they were able to go to Europe once or twice a year and loved staying in apartments and feeling part of the culture, making a total of 25 trips to Europe after they both retired. Jane loved traveling, especially by train, in Europe. She experienced some of the most scenic train trips in the world. Highlights on most of these trips included visiting art galleries, museums, grocery stores, restaurants and local markets. Jane loved to become immersed in the local cultures.
Jane was an avid sports fan college football, college basketball – particularly women’s basketball, and anything to do with soccer. Jane and Ken tried to attend at least one home football game at the Naval Academy every year. Jane coached her youngest son in youth leagues in Herndon, VA and Hixson (Chattanooga), TN. She was one of the founding members of Middle Valley Soccer, serving as its first Secretary in addition to coaching duties.
Jane volunteered at the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga and the Chattanooga Area Food Bank for many years. She also volunteered at the Family Services Shelter for Abused Women and their children and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Jane worked as a Senior Word Processor in the Development Office of the University of Tennessee – Chattanooga during the 1990s and in the Training Department of Sandy Spring National Bank Headquarters in Olney, MD. Jane was a longtime member of Chattanooga Women’s Club and served as its President, Vice President and Secretary many times during her long association with the group.
Jane was an exceptional cook who really enjoyed researching new ideas for meals as the years rolled by. Her husband was constantly in awe of her skill and resourcefulness in preparing great, different meals over decades of time. In addition to “foodie” activities, Jane was quite involved in family genealogy, was a great fan of jigsaw puzzles during the winter months, and worked crossword puzzles until the end to keep her mind sharp.
In accordance with her wishes, no formal service of her passing will be held. Rather, her husband and family will scatter her ashes at places she liked or would have liked and will hold a celebration of her wonderful life at a time and place to be determined in the future.
