James D. “Jim” Miller Sr., age 78, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Friday, September 9, 2022, at Reid Health surrounded by his family and friends.
Born July 11, 1944, in Bristol, Virginia, to James B. and Clemon Turner Miller, Jim had lived in Richmond since the age of two. He was a concrete finisher, starting out at DeBolt Concrete and then becoming pavement superintendent at E & B Paving, Inc. Jim enjoyed remodeling and home repair, working in his garden, and car collecting and building. He was a member of the Vintage Wheels Car Club. Jim was a strong supporter of labor unions and was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers 103 and Laborers, Local 1047. He was a wonderful, hard-working, dedicated man, and loved his family.
Survivors include his wife, Zella Titus Miller, to whom he was married on September 21, 1963; son, Jim (Stacy) Miller of Richmond; grandchildren, Brittany (Logan), Jonathon (Ali), Jacob, Justin, and Faith; great-grandsons, Jameson and Hank; brother, Edward (Barb) Miller; sisters-in-law, Norma Capps, Joann Lawson, Sharlene Mattix and Sanna Titus; brother-in-law, Clarence “Sarge” (Joyce) Titus; two aunts in Bristol, Virginia; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cynthia Miller-Ramsey; sister, Betty J. Miller-Lawman; brother, Robert Lee Miller; five uncles; and three brothers-in-law.
Visitation for James D. Miller Sr. will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
