Virgil E. Vaughn, Jr. of Carmel, formerly of New Castle, Kokomo, Muncie, and Lafayette, passed away on October 6, 2021 in Carmel, Indiana. Virgil, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend was born in New Castle on February 14, 1946. He graduated from Chrysler High School and Ball State University where he earned both a bachelor and masters degree. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
Virgil taught school in New Castle at Weir and Riley Elementary. He also worked in banking in New Castle, Kokomo, Lafayette, and Muncie. After he retired, he drove a school bus for the Lafayette and Carmel Schools. Many remember Virgil as one of the voices of the New Castle Trojans and the Muncie Burris Owls.
Virgil was a member and an elder of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Lafayette and attended Grace Church in Noblesville. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and loved watching his granddaughter play soccer and his grandson play guitar. He also enjoyed walking his faithful companion, Molly.
Virgil is survived by his wife of 54 years, Vicki, sons Joshua (Shauna) of San Jose, California; Jordan (Melissa) of Westfield, Indiana; grandchildren Caroline and Luke; two sister-in-laws: Cindi Jarvis of North Vernon and Traci (Lonnie) Ferguson of Spiceland; several nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Mary Vaughn and three siblings: Edward (Roberta), Frieda (Lowell) Culbertson, Paul (Ruth) Vaughn; mother and father-in-law Robert and Geneva Fulton, and brother-in-law, Tony Jarvis.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Riley Snook and Heartland Hospice for their loving care and to the Grace Church Life group and neighbors for their love and support during Virgil’s illness.
A memorial service honoring Virgil’s life will be held at Grace Church, Noblesville on
Sunday, October 10th at 2:00 p.m. Friends may call at 1:30. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the CJD Foundation (cjdfoundation.org/donate) for research of this disease.
