Thomas I. Rankin, age 83, formerly of Richmond, Indiana, died Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Ft. Thomas Hospital in Fort Thomas, Kentucky.
Born December 3, 1937, in Rushville, Indiana, to Russell and Viola Lucas Rankin, Tom lived in Richmond most of his life. He graduated from Manilla High School in Manilla, Indiana. Tom served as a SPC 4 in the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was employed by Belden Wire & Cable for 41 years, ending his career at the distribution center with many close friends. Tom was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Fort Thomas and a former member of First Baptist Church in Richmond. He enjoyed reading, watching old movies, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren. Tom had a gentle soul.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Gladys L. Laswell Rankin; daughter, Jennifer (Mark) Martin of Melbourne, Kentucky; grandchildren, Tessa Rankin of St. Paul, Minnesota, Jacob Rankin of Webster, Indiana, Kyle Martin of Melbourne, Kentucky, A.J. Fugazzi of Enid, Oklahoma, and Nick (Brandy) Smith of Fishers, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Beth Rankin of Webster, Indiana; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Michael S. (Debbie Isley) Rankin and Steven D. Rankin; parents; sisters, Marilyn Walters and Barbara Robertson; and brother, Larry Rankin.
Visitation for Thomas I. Rankin will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with his nephew, Rev. Larry Rempe, officiating. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
