Lowell Eugene Pate, age 78, of Venice, Florida, died Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Village Place Health & Rehabilitation Center in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Born May 22, 1943, in Richmond, Indiana, to Lowell W. and Louise Hancock Pate, Lowell grew up in Wayne County, Indiana. He farmed with his father until entering the U.S. Army in 1967. Lowell proudly served in Big Red One from 1967-1969 during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart and RVN Gallantry Cross Unit Citation. He was a member of the American Legion Hunt-Trouse Post 287, where he served as Commander from 1986-1988; Military Order of the Purple Heart; VFW; and AMVETS. Lowell was also a member of Central Christian Church in Richmond. He enjoyed farming, mushroom hunting, country music, and fishing, including trips to Canada with his friends.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Linda Jo Balthis Pate; daughters, Staci James of Lafayette, Indiana, Tammy Johnson of Venice, Florida, Heather Christman of Nokomis, Florida, and Cindy Lynn Paul; grandchildren, Samantha, Patrick, Carey, Benjamin, Madison, Abigail, and Brody; brother, Garry Pate; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Linda Paddock and Ruth Bucanan.

Visitation for Lowell Eugene Pate will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2021, at Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, Centerville. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2021, at Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Paul officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
