Lova Jean Poer, 89, of New Castle passed away Friday, January 8, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born April 22, 1931 in New Castle to the late Elbern and Pearl (Gregory) Denney.

Jean was a member of First Baptist Church in New Castle. She was a homemaker for most of her life and was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Jean enjoyed flower gardening and playing games with family and friends, especially Scrabble. She particularly loved her dog, Judy.

Survivors include a son, Doug (Sherry) Poer of New Castle; two daughters, Diane Poer (Ronnie Hinesley) of Sulphur Springs and Holly Poer Lewis of New Castle; granddaughters, Ashley Poer, Katie Kollmeyer and Abbey Kollmeyer; great granddaughter, Makensie Poer; great grandson, Gavin Poer; sister-in-law, Wanda Denney of New Castle and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Poer; daughter, Amy Poer; grandson, Matthew Poer; sisters, Beulah Bittner, Lela Hill and a brother, Clifford Denney.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at South Mound Cemetery (Section 17) on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 with Pastor Jerry Ingalls officiating. Masks will be required. Memorial contributions may be made to the Henry County Humane Society or Henry County Hospice with envelopes available at the cemetery.
