Joseph “Joe” Griffin, age 90, of Richmond, Indiana, died Sunday, September 5, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.
Born January 12, 1931, in Metamora, Indiana, to George and Flossie Burke Griffin, Joe was a life-long resident of Wayne County, Indiana. He served in the U.S. Army. Joe worked at Johns Manville for 42 ½ years before retiring in 1991. He loved going to church and was a member of Fellowship Church of Richmond. Joe had a wonderful sense of humor and truly cared about the needs of others. He loved spending time on his pontoon, mushroom hunting, and gardening.
Survivors include his daughters, Pamela (Bill) Dailey and Cheryl Griffin, both of Richmond; sons, Billy (Mary) Griffin of Abington, Indiana, and Thomas Griffin of Richmond; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters, Imogene Benroth, Phyllis Hiatt, and Pat Dollier; nieces; nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mary N. Morris Griffin, who died September 19, 1999; grandson, Billy; parents; sisters, Jackie and Pauline; and brothers, Harold and William Lawrence.
Visitation for Joseph “Joe” Griffin will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor David McQueen officiating. Burial will be in Elkhorn Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
