Joseph Harrison Bolt (96) of Richmond passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, December 7, 2021. He was a loving and generous father and friend who had an impact on many people across the state of Indiana. He will be greatly missed.
Born July 4, 1925, in Lenoir City, Tennessee to Joe and Dorotha Bolt, he lived in East Central Indiana (Richmond and New Castle) for over 70 years. After proudly serving in the Army in the South Pacific (Philippines, Leyte, and New Guinea) during World War II, he married Pauline McDaniel and moved to Richmond for work. He began working at International Harvester and became involved in the union, working his way up to become the Director of AFSCME (American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees) Council 62 in Indianapolis, and served for a time as an International Vice President for the AFL-CIO. He was a long-time proud and loyal member of the VFW and the American Legion and loved displaying his patriotism.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Pauline Bolt in 2009. He is survived by his children: Jerome (Cindy) Bolt of Richmond; David (Bonnie) Bolt of Calhoun, Georgia; Janice Bolt of Richmond; Barbara (Wes) Miller of Richmond; and Joe Bolt, Jr. and Penny of Richmond; 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Pastor Martin Holman officiating. The burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
