Jewell E. Hood, age 88, of Richmond, Indiana, died Thursday, December 31, 2020, at The Leland Legacy Senior Community.
Born May 7, 1932, in McWhirter, Kentucky, to Denver and Lillian George Hibbard, Jewell lived in Richmond most of her life. She was a 1950 graduate of Richmond High School. Jewell worked as a secretary at Starr Elementary School. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, where she was active in the children’s ministry. Jewell enjoyed spending time with her family and church friends and going on mission trips to the Lakota Nation in South Dakota.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda (John) Simmons of Memphis, Tennessee; grandson, Chris Kovach of Richmond; sisters, Alvenia Dechter and Curraleen Watson, both of California; nieces; nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 40 years, Robert Hood, who died August 28, 1993; parents; and brother, Elgin Hibbard.
Due to the current COVID-19 situation, we regret to inform you that services for Jewell E. Hood will be private with Pastor Steve Lantz officiating. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery. A celebration of Jewel’s life will be held in the future when the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
