Howard B. Crist, 87, went to his Heavenly home in time for Thanksgiving with his beloved wife, Pat, on Wednesday, November 24.
Born on January 18, 1934 in Franklin County, Indiana, he was the son of Clarence F. & Hazel Miller Crist, both of whom preceded him in death. Howard was a 1952 graduate of Brownsville High School. He was united in marriage to the former Patricia Louise Morgan on May 4, 1991. They were blessed with 28 years together until her death on August 9, 2019.
Howard was a proud lifelong farmer. He served his community in many generous ways and was always willing to help others in need. He was a police officer with the Richmond Police Department from 1959 until his retirement in 1979. He later worked 19 years at the Richmond State Hospital. He was a faithful member of Lifespring Church. He served with the Williamsburg Lions Club at one time and later with the Richmond Lions Club. He and Pat drove many thousands of miles together delivering Meals on Wheels and Howard volunteered many hours for Reid Health.
Howard is survived by his daughters Marcia Montgomery and Linda Anderson; son, Duane Crist; step-daughters Marvella Sanders and Malynda Clevenger; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sister, Ruby Allen; brothers, Mark Crist and Donald Crist and several nieces & nephews.
Howard’s homegoing will be celebrated by Pastor Steve Bray at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30 at Lifespring Church, 5600 US 27 North, Richmond. Interment will follow in Spartanburg Cemetery.
Family & friends may gather for visitation from Noon –1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30 at the church.
