Gary Wayne Reece, age 73, of Richmond, Indiana, died unexpectedly Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Reid Health.
Born August 26, 1948, in Richmond, Indiana, to William Cloyd and Mary Lou Notoras Reece, Gary was a life-long resident of this community. He graduated from Richmond High School, where he was a multisport athlete, excelling in basketball and baseball. Gary attended Eastern Kentucky University and Brevard Community College. He retired from Wayne Works and Vandor Corporation and worked part-time at Kohl’s. Gary was a member of Elks Lodge #649. He played professional baseball for a short time and was an avid golf player. Gary enjoyed spending time with his family. Special moments included attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and watching them have fun in his pool. He loved gathering with his family and friends. Gary knew no strangers and will be missed by all.
Survivors include his children, Monique O’Grady (Susan Smullen) of Ballston Spa, New York, and Nicole Reece and Bryan Reece, both of Richmond; stepchildren, Ken (Mandy) Platt of Wilmington, Ohio, Kim (Dan) Collignon of Ferdinand, Indiana, and Paul (Sherry) Platt of Fountain City, Indiana; grandchildren, Garrett (Jessica) O’Grady, Bailey O’Grady, MacKenzie (Jeremiah) Dunckel, Madison Farris, Macie Twine, Olivia Grant, Gracie Platt, Bryson Platt, Philicity Collignon, Abbagail Collignon, Miranda (Wade) VanCamp, and Gavin Platt; great-grandchildren, Lennox and Lofton Dunckel and Tegan and Emmett O’Grady; sisters, Karen (Jay) Needler of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and Janice (Tom) Mittlekamp of Clayton, Ohio; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, including special cousin, Richard (Linda) Helton of Richmond; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Karen Lee Platt-Reece and parents.
Visitation for Gary Wayne Reece will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Ted Chalk officiating.
