Florence Joan Clark died of natural causes on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at the age of 94 at Hubbard Hill Retirement Community in Elkhart, Indiana. She was born December 14, 1926 in Centerville, Indiana to Orville and Dora Hoover. She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Amt (Eric), and granddaughter, Erica Amt and her husband, Carlos Gonzalez.
Joan grew up riding and showing her horse Gypsy and had a great fondness for animals in general. She played piano and later bells in the high school band and graduated from Centerville High School in April 1944. It was in Junior High that she met her future husband, David A. Clark, and after he returned from W.W. II, they were married on February 2, 1947.
In 1967, she and David moved to Greenville, Ohio where David’s business was located. They had many good friends and family members with whom they stayed in touch. Joan continued her Centerville and Richmond bridge clubs and then joined another one in Greenville. She learned to play golf at the Greenville Country Club and attended the Presbyterian Church where years later she served as a deacon and helped in the kitchen during special events.
Her granddaughter, Erica, was the highlight of her life. She loved having her visit, attended all of the major events in her life, and stayed very close to her up until the last. They both loved those shopping trips.
Joan moved to Hubbard Hill Retirement Community in Elkhart, Indiana in April of 2016 to be nearer to her daughter and son-in-law. During this time in Assisted Living, Lettie Edwards became a great friend and care giver to her. In May of 2020, Joan moved into the Living Wisdom Center at Hubbard Hill where she received extraordinary care from the nurses, especially Kim and Bobbie. Southern Care Hospice was invaluable during her last days. She died peacefully in their care.
Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Joan will be buried at Crown Hill Cemetery in Centerville, IN next to David.
