Born April 4, 1937, in Brownsville, Texas, to John and Martha Meeks Bland, Doug lived in Richmond most of his life. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for 22 years. Doug also worked as a welder. He loved to fish and enjoyed all kinds of sports, including being an avid Kentucky Wildcats fan.
Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Barbara A. Bland; daughters, Wilma (David) Sullivan of Connersville, Indiana, Lucy Qualls of Richmond, Deborah (Tim) Brown of New Albany, Indiana, and Joyce (Ron) Lentz of Richmond; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Emily B. Collett Bland, who died January 30, 2004; parents; two sisters; and two brothers.
Visitation for Douglas H. Bland will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Crary officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery’s Veteran’s Field of Honor with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
