Donald H. “Don” Cook, age 83, of Richmond, Indiana, died Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Ambassador Healthcare.
Born July 3, 1937, in Richmond, Indiana, to Carl J. and Mona L. Lucas Cook, Don was a life-long resident of Wayne County, Indiana. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1955 and married his high school sweetheart, Sally, in 1956. They had one daughter. Don retired from Earlham College in 1999, where he served as the head groundskeeper. Don was a hard worker and born leader, who instilled in others the great work habits that he lived by. Don was a member of Centerville United Methodist Church. He was an avid motorcyclist and spent more than 50 years traveling this country on his cycle. The Smoky Mountains and trips out West were some of his favorite sights to see. Don had a wonderful sense of humor and could joke with the best of them. He loved his motorcycles, cars, and trucks; little dachshund puppies; home; family; and many friends.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Sarah S. “Sally” Jarrett Cook; nieces, Rosie Garrett and Kathy Gilmore; nephews, John Cook, Mark Fesmire, Philip (Cindy) Fesmire, and Courtland (Diana) Fesmire; and special friend, Rick Flamm.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Terry Ann; parents; sister, Edith Alexander; and brother, Jim Cook.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Ambassador Healthcare, particularly the nurses who lovingly cared for Don during his short stay there.
Memorial visitation for Donald H. “Don” Cook will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2021, at Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, Centerville. Memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2021, at Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Ted Chalk officiating.
