Carolyn Sue (Susie) May Hessler, 81, passed away on November 29, 2021 at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, Vero Beach, Florida. She was born in Milton, Indiana on July 28, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Herschel and Rosa May.
Sue graduated from Milton High School in the Class of 1958. She received a degree in Nursing from Denison College in Denison, Texas, She worked in several hospitals and specialized in surgical nursing. Sue married Ken Hessler, who survives, on April 11, 1959. She is also survived by one son, Barry L. (friend Penny) of Santa Fe, TX; one daughter, Julie Ann (Mark) Burke of Lake Villa, IL; one granddaughter, Alyssa (William) Burke of Longmont, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Betty Ragoonanan and Shirley Higbie.
To those who know her, she always had a smile and enjoyed making those around her happy. Many called her “Sparkle” because of her smile and the clothes and jewelry that she wore. She loved music and was a member of a group that sang at local nursing homes. She and Ken were very active in Our Lady of the Lake Church in Chapin, SC after their retirement. She was a member of St. John of the Cross Church in Vero Beach, FL upon moving there in 2016 to a senior community. Sue loved to travel having been on 20+ cruises throughout the world.
The most important thing in her life was her love for her husband of 62 years, her children and granddaughter.
Visitation will be on Saturday January 8, 2022 from 10:00 – 11:00 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Cambridge City, IN. A Funeral Mass will follow. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
