Carolyn Louise Gardner, age 65, formerly of Richmond, Indiana, died Monday, January 4, 2021, at Carriage Court of Hilliard.

Born July 30, 1955, in Muncie, Indiana, to Henry and Betty Cox Gardner, Carolyn lived in Richmond most of her life. She graduated from Richmond High School in 1973 and earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1977 and a master’s degree in education in 1979, both from Ball State University. Carolyn taught second grade in the Randolph Southern School Corporation for 38 years. She was an amazing teacher, who was passionate about her students and had occasionally taught three generations of families during her career. Carolyn was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Richmond. She enjoyed sports and was an avid Purdue and Indianapolis Colts fan. Carolyn was a very positive person with a can-do attitude, which influenced those around her. She also had a great sense of humor. Carolyn had a heart for animals and people, including being a “rescue mom” for many cats and dogs throughout her lifetime and helping anyone who was in need. Her family was a very important part of her life, and they loved her so much.

Survivors include her brothers, David (Natalie) Gardner of Hilliard, Ohio, and Scott Gardner of Louisville, Kentucky; nieces, Donna (Brandon) Taylor and Sara (fiancé, Victor Greco) Gardner; nephews, Phillip (Tarra) Gardner, Jonathan (Tina) Gardner, Matthew (Kayla) Gardner, and Nicholas Gardner; great-niece, Madalyn Gardner and great-niece and great-nephew twins, Grace and Carson Taylor; cousins, Mike, Bob, and Doug Zander; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, we regret to inform you that services for Carolyn Louise Gardner will be private. A graveside service will be held at Earlham Cemetery with Chaplain Adam Davis officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
