Carol Hunnicutt Beeson, age 77, passed away peacefully in Wyoming, Ohio the morning of March 12, 2021. Her life stands as a model of service to family, friends, faith and community.
Carol was born December 14, 1943 to Albert and Ollia Hunnicutt in Greens Fork, Indiana. The family later moved to Hagerstown, Indiana where she met and married Jon Beeson at age 18. Carol attended Purdue and Ball State universities, graduating with bachelor’s and master’s degrees, respectively, in elementary education. Among her early teaching positions was a return home to teach first grade at Hagerstown Elementary School.
After Jon completed a tour of military service in 1967, the couple moved to
Greenhills, Ohio where Carol taught first grade at Damon Road Elementary
School. In 1978, they put down roots in Wyoming and quickly became ingrained in the community.
For 27 years, Carol taught at and directed the Forest Chapel Preschool in Forest Park, Ohio. Carol and her team of teachers provided a child-centered program that served thousands of kids over the years.
Carol was an active congregant of Friendship United Methodist Church, lending her time, talent and leadership to many committees, mission trips, and youth and senior programs. She was highly involved in Wyoming’s Women’s Club and Trowel & Error Garden Club. She also served on the Wyoming Historical Society’s board of trustees. Carol volunteered extensively at her church as well as numerous nonprofit organizations including Gorman Heritage Farm, Boy Scouts of America, and many others.
Carol was named a Wyoming Citizen of the Year in 2017.
Carol’s passion for learning led her to travel extensively, visiting Hungary, Slovakia, Mexico, Italy, Austria, Ireland, Peru, China, Czech Republic, France, England, and Kenya. Carol and Jon also travelled throughout North America, including trips to Alaska, Hawaii, British Columbia and throughout the United States. Carol had particular love for Kiawah Island, South Carolina where she and Jon vacationed
frequently with friends and family. She also enjoyed golf, pickleball, Pilates, theater and the arts.
Carol is survived by Jon, her loving husband of 58 years, and her daughter Brenda and son Brad. She also leaves behind her sister Sue Carr; brother Randy Hunnicutt; sister-in-law Dena Hunnicutt; daughterin-law Felicia Beeson; son-in-law Jeff Blunt; three adoring grandchildren Ben, Sophie, and Casey; and an entire community of close friends. Carol is preceded in death by her brother Edward Hunnicutt and parents Albert and Ollia Hunnicutt.
A celebration of Carol’s remarkable life will take place this summer and details will be shared at a later date. To honor Carol’s passion for community and education, her family has established the Carol Beeson Memorial Education Scholarship for Wyoming High School students pursuing teaching as their field of collegiate study.
