Bessie “Meemaw” Janes, 88, of New Castle, passed away Monday, August 30 at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born March 5, 1933 in Goose Creek, KY, the daughter of William and Sudie Grubb.
Bessie was a loving woman, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and “Big Meemaw” to her great-grandchildren. The most important thing in her life and thought the world of was her family. Bessie and her husband owned and operated Rosalie’s Pizzeria in Cicero, IL. Following the ownership of the pizzeria, Bessie and her husband moved to Mooreland, IN, where they had a small farm with horses, cows, and their beloved dogs, Freckles and Bubba. She enjoyed music, dancing, and just being surrounded by the people she loved. She especially loved cooking and enjoying big meals with her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Tommy Janes (Anita, deceased), Brenda Johnson (Richard) of New Castle, Danny Janes (Sandy) of Spiceland, her 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; siblings: Hazel Catron and Gracie Ann Brooks of New Castle and many of her nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Chuck Janes. In addition to her parents Sudie and William Grubb, her siblings, Esther Bowling, Mabel Burke, Mae Hibbard, Dewey, Homer, Amos, Virgil, and Earl Grubb.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and service will be at 11:00 am on Friday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Additionally, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
