Wayne Paul Nichols, 87, of Connersville passed away early Monday, June 15, 2020.
He was born May 8, 1933 in Fayette County, one of three children of Paul O. and E. Marie Jones Nichols, and he was a graduate of Connersville High School.
Wayne was a proud veteran, serving with the U.S. Army and stationed in Germany.
On March 22, 1974, he was married in the Park Place Church of God to Lois J. Waits, formerly of Rushville, and they made their home in the Everton area.
Wayne was employed at Thomas Electric and Hardware from 1951 to 1953, Standard Oil from 1955 to 1958, and then owned and operated Nichols Mobil Oil from 1959 to 1980. From 1973 until his retirement in 1998, he owned and operated Nichols Ice, Oil, and Refrigeration.
He had been an active member of the Everton Volunteer Fire Department and the Everton Lions Club. He also volunteered with the FFA (Future Farmers of America). Wayne enjoyed listening to the police scanner, having his “sweets”, and spending time with his pet dog “Ginger”.
Wayne is survived by two children, Michael W. (Mary Jane) Nichols and Jeffrey C. (Jatanna) Nichols, both of Connersville; grandchildren, Brandon (Haley Sizemore) Nichols, Anthony “A.J.” (Milu) Nichols, Skylar (Tonya) Nichols, Chelsy Nichols, Travis (Carrie) Lykins, Cory (Misty) Lykins, and Dusty Lykins, all of Connersville; many great-grandchildren; a brother, Stanley (Karen) Nichols of Indianapolis; and a sister, Marylyn Nichols of Connersville; He is also blessed with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his wife of 43 years, he is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Joy Lykins, who passed away October 10, 2010, a great-granddaughter, Ellie Kay Nichols, who passed away September 23, 2019, and a sister-in-law, Karen Nichols.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. Burial with military honors provided by the Fayette County Veterans Honor Guard will be held in Everton. Friends may call at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
