Wanda L. Carper, age 73, a New Castle resident, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 31, 2020. She was a patient at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana
She was born October 10, 1947 in Tazewell, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Henry David and Bertha Lee Rutherford Ridings. Wanda had resided in New Castle since 1979. She was a graduate of Claiborne County High School in Tennessee and had worked 20 years for Citizens State Bank as a Customer Service Specialist. She had also worked 10 years for Hills Department Store.
Wanda was known for her beautiful smile and had a gift of hospitality that God gave her. She was faithful in sharing that gift to others in the form of tasty meals, visitation to the sick, and being an encourager to everyone she would come in contact with. She will be remembered as a devoted Christian lady who always had her heart and home open to anyone in need. Wanda loved family activities and truly treasured being a grandma. She often mentioned that being a grandma was the greatest thing that God had blessed her with. Wanda was an active and faithful member of Grace Baptist Church for 40 years.
Left to cherish her loving memory include one son, Jonathan Carper, Muncie, Indiana; one daughter, Dawn (husband, Tom) Jordan of Deatsville, Alabama; six grandchildren, Hannah (husband, Tanner) Nelson, Nathan Jordan, Andrue Tisdale, Zechariah, Luke, and Eli Jordan; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Grace Nelson; one brother, Earl (wife, Barbara) Ridings of Tazewell, Tennessee; one sister, Gertrude Edmondson of New Tazewell, Tennessee; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, William Carper in 1987 and six brothers, Frank, Jay, Ted, Warren, Lee Roy, and David Ridings; a sister, Bessie Dozier.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m., until 7:00 p.m., Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Macer-Hall-Marcum & Moffitt Funeral Home, 2011 East Broad Street. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 8th at Grace Baptist Church, 2649 “Q” Avenue with calling 1 hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Garden.
