Vicki Lynn (Marlow) Cunningham, 61, of New Castle, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on Monday, May 11, 2020. She was born October 17, 1958 in New Castle, to Larry and Janet (Brown) Marlow.

A 1977 graduate of Indiana School for the Deaf, she was very active in sports. Vicki was captain of the basketball, volleyball and track teams. She was a four year honor student, and during her senior year, she was homecoming queen. She furthered her education at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC, and continued to receive her Bachelor’s Degree at Tennessee Temple University. After graduation she attended Ball State University to receive another Bachelor’s Degree. She then went back to Gallaudet University to receive her Master’s Degree. She also received another Master’s Degree at the University of Western Maryland in education. With her degrees, she became a teacher at the Indiana School for the Deaf. She appeared before the Indiana Senate and House of Representative becoming the first deaf person to ever address legislative bodies. In 1981 she led the Women’s Basketball Team at the Deaf Olympics in Cologne, Germany, winning the Gold Medal. She was featured in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame for her basketball accomplishments and recently she was inducted into the Indiana Deaf School Hall of Fame.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters: Kelly (Michael “Bubba”) Lamb of Spiceland, and Jill (Joseph) Mixell of New Castle; a brother: Scott (Sherri) Marlow of Kokomo; nieces and nephews: Michael (Julia), Kevin (Ashley), and David (Danielle) Houser, Jaclyn and Jessica Mixell, Evan (Desiree) Marlow and Sydney Marlow; great-nieces and great-nephews: James, Anna, Braden, Alyssa, Kayla, Noah, and Andrew Houser, and Maverick Marlow; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Keith and Mary Brown, Haskel Marlow and Vona Decker; and great-grandparents.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Charles Dugger officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm Thursday, prior to the service at the funeral home. Please be prepared to wait as we are limited to only 25 guests in attendance at a time.
