Terry Earl Groll, 79, of Connersville passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Jewish Mercy Hospital in Cincinnati where he had been a patient for ten days.

He was born July 23, 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio, one of four children of Earl and Tycie Harriet Sykes Groll. His family moved to Connersville, and he was a 1959 graduate of Connersville High School. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Miami, Florida in 1963. That same year, he became the bookkeeper and vending machine route man for Alpine Amusement.

In 1970, Terry became the general manager and hotel innkeeper at the Holiday Inn of Connersville, which his family owned and operated. From there, he became the assistant general manager of the Alpine Amusement Company in 1985 until his retirement in 2010. Following his retirement, he went back to work at Sears in Connersville.

On February 28, 1986, he was married in Connersville to Terri Morris Creech of Connersville. Mrs. Groll survives.

Along with his wife, they attended First United Methodist Church.

Because of his work in the Alpine Amusement Company and the Holiday Inn, he was well known in the community. Because of this, he joined the Fayette County Connersville Chamber of Commerce. A community activist, he was involved with the organizations United Way and Junior Achievement. He was a former member of the Connersville Kiwanis, and he participated heavily in the Bicentennial in 2013.

A huge sports fan, Terry enjoyed the Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals. He also loved to travel to Marco Island. At home, Terry enjoyed working on his house and outside. He also enjoyed reading, working on crossword puzzles, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Terri Groll; eight children, Cheryl (Jim) Colver of Carmel, Kimberly Ware of Carmel, Jennifer Mitchell of Fishers, Steven Earl (Nikki) Groll of Connersville, Karen (Brian) Dickey of Connersville, Kathy (Dean) Solger of Indianapolis, Danielle (Brett) Crutchfield of Indianapolis, and Stephanie (Craig) Wilson of Indianapolis; 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn (Ron) Rand of Fort Myers, Florida, Connie (Steve) Crutchfield of Pontiac, Michigan, and Karen (Gary) Corder of Losantville, Indiana; his mother-in-law, Patsy Morris; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Donald Morris; a granddaughter, Brookelin Solger; and a son-in-law, Tarleton Ware.

Friends and family may call from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2020 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. the same day with Reverend Ron Rand officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery.
