Roy R. White, age 84, of Richmond, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on the evening of Monday, May 4, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born May 22, 1935, in Liberty, Indiana, to Merrill and Rinda Bell Dawes White, Roy lived most of his life in Richmond. He was the eleventh of twelve children and had two nieces and a nephew who were also raised with him as siblings. Roy graduated in 1953 from Short High School in Liberty and attended IUPUI at Earlham College. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, serving as head of the scanner division on a C-124 Globemaster and supporting the Distant Early Warning Line (DEW Line). Roy worked in the casket industry as a plant manager at Spartan Casket and Wallace Metal Products/J. M. Hutton in Indiana and a company in Georgia. He was president of Imperial Casket in South Carolina. After retiring from the casket industry, Roy was a bus driver for Centerville-Abington Community Schools before retiring again on his 80th birthday. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church. Roy was a former member of the Richmond Lions Club; Eagles in Eaton, Ohio; and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 167. He was an avid trap shooter and hunter and enjoyed reading, traveling, and watching his great-grandchildren’s sporting events. Roy loved and protected his family and was always willing to help others. His personal quote was, “When it’s too tough for everyone else, it is just right for me.”

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Joyce Ann Huffaker White; daughter, Lynda McClelland of Richmond; son, Randy White of Richmond; grandchildren, Chris (Jesse Abrams) Slinker of Richmond, Lisa White Allen of Kentucky, and Shaun Collins of Richmond; great-grandchildren, Mason, Jake, and Gracey Slinker, Riley and Makenzie Mowell, Avery Allen, and Chaz Collins; special great-great-granddaughter, Layla “Sunshine” Slinker; sister, Betty Stewart of Connersville, Indiana; brother, Earl Conner of Connersville; brother-in-law, Wendell Cope of Avon, Indiana; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends including his beloved dog, Diva.

He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Joyce A. Collins White; son-in-law, Charles I. McClelland Jr.; parents; sisters, Lillian Pope, Leah Newcomb, Mildred Lawson, Nell Wilson, Addie Cope, Goldie Maze, Jane Chasteen, and an infant sister; and brothers, Paul, Bob, Jim, and Jacob White.

The family would like to thank Reid Hospice, especially Greg Paddock, for their loving care; Dr. Fisher for his 46 years of medical care; and all the family and friends who have reached out to the family during this difficult time.

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, we regret to inform you that services for Roy R. White will be private with Pastor Fletcher Callahan officiating. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
