Ora Lee Wright, 95, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2020. She was fondly known in the community as “Mother Wright.” She was originally from Centerville, Tennessee, where she fell in love and married her husband, Samuel Joe Wright. The two eventually moved to Richmond where they continued to raise their family, son, Samuel L. Wright and daughter, Carolyn F. Wright.
Mother Wright was a devoted Christian and received her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early in life. She was a member of the Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, where she was the Church Mother under Pastor Fred Phinisee and then Pastor Elder Hardin. Mother Wright dedicated all her days to serving the Lord, the Church and the Community. She was a mentor to everyone she encountered, especially the Norwood Apartment Community on North 17th Street, where she resided for many years. She always greeted everyone with a warm heart and a smile, and endeavored to tell everyone something about the Lord. Mother Wright was celebrated for her enjoyable homemade fried chicken dinners, which she sold to raise money for her church. She was not only a mother to her own family, but was a mother and spiritual guide to everyone who allowed her into their hearts.
Mother Wright is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Joe Wright of twenty-three years, her son, Samuel L. Wright, her parents, Edem Easley and Nellie Mae Easley, her three brothers, five sisters and her dearly loved twin sister, Cora Dobbins.
Mother Wright leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved and devoted daughter, Carolyn “Mickey” F. Wright, her grandchildren, Thomas J. Wright (Pamela), Gregory T. Wright (Michelle), Cassandra J. Wright of Indianapolis, Indiana, Cedric A. Wright, of Chicago, Illinois, John Miller (Buffy) of Connersville, Indiana, and Marquita LaMere of Omaha, Nebraska, her great-grand children, Germayne T. James, Dominic D. Wright (Angela), Toddrae Holland (Stephanie), Shante Wright and beloved nephew, Larry Wright. She is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces, great great-grand children and friends.
