LaVerne Allen “George” Walters, 86, passed away Sunday morning May 3, 2020 at Addison Place in New Castle, Indiana. A son of the late Elmer Donald and Freda M. (Summan) Walters, George was born in Bentonville, Indiana on February 11, 1934. George was raised in the Bentonville community and graduated from high school there in 1952. Formerly of Cambridge City, he has made his home in New Lisbon since 1986. George retired from the Indiana National Guard after serving 40 years from March 17, 1952 until April 30, 1992. He also retired in 1992 from M.E.G. in Cambridge City after 39 years of employment as a shipping clerk. He was a member of the Lawrence H. Bertsch American Legion Post 169 and the Whitewater Camping Association. Following retirement, he worked at Mt. Summit State Park and enjoyed camping and fishing.

Survivors include his children, Ronnie Manifold, Scott (Yolanda) Teague, Teresa (Kent) Hahn, Julie (Bryan) Jackson, Julie and Eric Walters; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; special brother in-law, Larry Protsman.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann (Parker) Walters; son, Jeff Walters; 3 sisters, Martha Ewing, Donna Protsman and infant, Darlene Walters.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday May 7, 2020 at Ebenezer Cemetery- 7495 E. 1200 N.- Lewisville, IN 47352. Adam Perdue will officiate. COVID-19 protocol will be followed.
