Joyce Mills McLear, age 82, of Centerville, Indiana, died Thursday, November 26, 2020, at Reid Health.
Born February 22, 1938, in Richmond, Indiana, to Vernon “Pappy” and Hazel Null Mills, Joyce lived in Richmond most of her life. She was a 1956 graduate of Richmond High School. Joyce worked at Hiatt Grocery, INA, Golden Rule Dress Shop as a manager, Recycling Center, Heritage Books & Gifts, and Wayne County Nursing Division as a medical receptionist from 1985 to 1989. She was a member of Delta Theta Tau Philanthropic Sorority. Joyce was a charter member of Phi Chi Epsilon, Alpha Delta Chapter, having served as Grand Vice President in 1977. She was an active member of the Fairview Reunion Committee and a member of the Red Hat Society. Joyce enjoyed collecting Christmas ornaments.
Survivors include her husband, Robert E. McLear Jr., to whom she was married on June 3, 2012; son, Jeff (Susan) Cappa of Richmond and their children, Brandon (Erika) Cappa of Richmond, Adam (Abbey) Cappa of California, and Courtney (Jeremy) Lacey of Atlanta, Georgia; Bob’s family, Sally (Jim) Baumer of Centerville, Kathy (Chip) Gray of Indianapolis, Indiana, Robert (Michelle) McLear III of Illinois, and Judy McLear of Evansville, Indiana; Bob’s 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; cousin, Pam (Tim) Broering of New Paris, Ohio; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and Bob’s son, Michael McLear.
Due to the current COVID-19 situation, we regret to inform you that the graveside service for Joyce Mills McLear will be private with Deacon Jim Miller officiating. The service will be recorded and available on the Doan & Mills Funeral Home website. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held in the future when the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Arrangements are being handled by Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, Centerville.
