CENTERVILLE, Ind. – John J. Ramey, age 89, of Centerville, Indiana, died Monday, January 6, 2020, at Reid Health.
Born November 15, 1930, in Abington, Indiana, to Buff and Celebelle Jarrett Ramey, John was a life-long resident of Wayne County, Indiana. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. John retired from J.S. Sweet Company, Inc. in Cambridge City, Indiana, in 1993. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion Harry Ray Post #65. John was also a 32nd degree mason. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed boating and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jean Dils Ramey; children, Jackie (Tom) Hutchings of Richmond, Jennie (Joe) Wellman of Centerville, Jill (Ryan) Halloran of Richmond, and Jeff (Sherry Turner) Ramey of Centerville; grandchildren, Josh, Chrissy (Brian), Ryan, Wade (Miranda), Nick, and Sarah Jo (Corey); great-grandchildren, Alexia, Kiera, Liam, and Emmy-Jean; brother, Jim (Karen) Ramey of Sevierville, Tennessee; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
There will be no public services for John J. Ramey. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, Centerville.
