Jerry M. Cline, 72, of New Castle, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Monday, November 9, 2020 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
He was born on October 28, 1948 in New Castle, a son of Dave and Georgenia Cline.
Jerry grew up in New Castle where he graduated from New Castle High School before beginning his long-time career with the New Castle Fire Department. He eventually retired as Fire Chief after serving for over 29 years. He especially enjoyed car rides around town, bird watching at Summit Lake State Park and attending his grandchildren’s softball and choral events.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sondra (Stephens) Cline; their son, Shane (Alisa) Cline of Pendleton; grandchildren, Emily Cline and Sophia (Tobin) Metzger; great nephew and niece, Kohen and Raely who knew him as “Poppy”; brothers, Rick (Lea) Cline and Dean (Beth) Cline; sisters, Susan Cline and Lesa (Rick) Tully; brothers-in-law, Mike Stephens and Pat (Brenda) Stephens; sisters-in-law, Vickie (Roger) McGinnis, Beverly (Steve) Schetgen, and Penny (Bud) Gauker; special nephew, Kenny (Kelsi) Stephens and many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Timmy Cline; grandmother, Flora Blake; grandfather, Mace Cline and longtime friend, Kay Byers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Henry County Humane Society or Shop with a Fireman through the New Castle Fire Department.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 pm, Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Sproles Family Funeral Home. Family remarks and a time of sharing to begin at 3:00 pm followed by a memorial vehicle procession in partnership with the New Castle Fire Department.
