James Wayne Wagers, age 83, of Richmond, Indiana, passed Sunday, July 12, 2020, at Dayton Veterans Hospital.

Born July 3, 1937, in Irvine, Kentucky, to Graden and Emma Barnes Wagers, Jim lived in Richmond most of his life. He was a graduate of Richmond High School, class of 1955. Following service in the U.S. Navy, Jim worked at First National Bank and later retired from Belden Corporation as Director of Financial Services.

Jim served on the Richmond Police Department Merit Commission as a member and president. He enjoyed attending Richmond High School sporting events, collecting Doo-wop music, and golfing at Forest Hills and Elks Country Club, where he was a longtime member.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Diane Lux Wagers; son, Michael Wagers of Richmond; daughter, Natalie (Mark) Hayes of Duxbury, Massachusetts; granddaughter, Ryan Wagers of Richmond; sister, Audrey Smith of Connersville, Indiana; sister-in-law, Shirley Wagers of Richmond; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Graden Wagers; and brother-in-law, Dennis Smith.

There will be no public services for James Wayne Wagers due to Covid-19 concerns. Arrangements are being handled by Doan and Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
