James A. “Jim” Miller, 87, of New Castle passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at AMG Specialty Hospital in Greenfield. He was born July 22, 1933 in Hartford City to the late James and Juanita (Nay) Alsop.
A longtime farmer in Rush County, Jim graduated from Rushville High School in 1952 and attended Purdue University. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War. Jim had been employed at US Envelope Company in Indianapolis for 9 years, but most recently worked painting homes in Shirley. He ran the American Legion Post in Greenfield and was a former member of the Greenfield VFW. Jim was also a member of Eastern Hancock Booster Club and was an avid sports fan, enjoying IU Basketball, Alabama Football and the Cincinnati Reds. He enjoyed watching Jeopardy, attending auto races and bowling at the Rose Bowl. Jim especially loved attending his granddaughters sporting events and meeting friends at Stacks and the Early Bird Café.
He is survived by his son, James “Jimmy” (Jaime) Miller; granddaughters, Hannah and Brooklyn Miller; great granddaughter, Emery Grace and several extended family members and close friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his adopted parents, Henry and Grace Miller.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Jim Becker officiating. Military rites will be conducted by a contingence of the American Legion and VFW. Burial will follow in East Hill Cemetery in Rushville. Visitation will be from 11 – 1 p.m. prior to the service.
