Helen Singer, 95, Cambridge City, passed away Thursday afternoon December 3, 2020 at the home of her daughter Janet in Cambridge City. The daughter of the late Russell Clyde and Ona Mortin (Jones) Staton, Helen was born on May 23, 1925 in Bath County, Kentucky. Helen graduated from Mt. Summit High School in Mt. Summit, Indiana with the class of 1944. She married her first husband of 50 years, the late Arthur John Meyer, in Cambridge City at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church on January 3, 1946. Art passed away on November 23, 1996. Helen found companionship again with Bernard Joseph Singer. They were married in Lakeland, Florida on October 11, 1997. He passed away on February 24, 2013. Helen worked at JC Penney’s and Sear’s in New Castle for 5 years. Following the birth of her 4 children, Helen went to work for Western Wayne School Corporation as the head cook in the cafeteria and retired from there after several years of service. Helen also volunteered for 5 years as a Girl Scout Leader. She was fortunate to spend many years during the winter months in her retirement home in Lakeland, Florida. In her leisure, Helen enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling to many places in the camper. She has been a member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church for 74 years.
Survivors include, 3 daughters, Veleta Sue Meyer of Reno, NV, Teresa (Wayne) Grimes of Cambridge City and Janet (Clyde) Creech of Cambridge City; 16 grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Helen was also preceded in death by her son, Gary Meyer on September 26, 2011; 2 siblings, Clayton Staton and Mary Snedigar.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday December 8, 2020 at Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City. Fr. John Hall will officiate.
