Margaret Jessee, 81, formerly of Mooreland, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Heritage House of New Castle. She was born January 25, 1938 in Soldier, KY, a daughter of the late Mason and Minnie (Madden) Jessee.

Margaret retired from Miller’s IGA, where she worked for over 35 years, working at both New Castle and Hagerstown locations. Often called “feisty”, Margaret loved creating gifts for others, whether it was crocheting, painting, knitting, beading, or cooking. A very generous person, she truly believed it was better to give than to receive.

When she was in her 60s, she fulfilled a lifelong dream of obtaining her G.E.D., and did so with pride as she was the featured speaker at her commencement. Known as “Grandma Pickle” to many of her grand and great grandchildren, she loved being with family and friends. While at Heritage House, she discovered that she loved playing Bingo, which she did often.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Debbie (Bruce) Kizer of Mooreland; granddaughters, Jessie (Penn) Edward of Georgetown, KY, and Andrea (Justin) Thompson of Lewisville; great grandsons, Colson and Kizer Thompson; great-granddaughters, Elyssa and Shannon Edward; several nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Faye Jessee and Judy Jessee, both of New Castle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Ralph, Edward, Ray, Roscoe, and James Jessee, and three sisters, Bertha Lowder, Julia Younce, and Thelma Thompson.

Margaret’s family would like to sincerely thank the caring staff of Heritage House for their exemplary devotion to Margaret’s care for the past three years. They are like family.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 9, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Pastor Nathan Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
