SCHMIDT, Barbara J. age 79 of Cincinnati, formerly of Hamilton, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018, at Hillebrand Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 13, 1939, the daughter of Armand and Melba (Chaney) Vorwerck. Barbara was a 1957 graduate of St. Mary High School, and a 1960 graduate of Mercy School of Nursing. On July 16, 1960, she married Richard Schmidt and he preceded her in death on August 14, 2007. Mrs. Schmidt worked for Mercy Health for 40 years retiring in 2004. She was an active member of St. Ann Church.
Survivors include six children, Elizabeth (Paul) Hegedus, Amy (John) Engle, Martin (Tara) Schmidt, Megan (Kevin) Stone, Michael (Andrea) Schmidt, and Jo Ellen (Andy) Miller; fourteen grandchildren, Eric and Abby Hegedus, Jake (Melissa) Engle, Katie (Trevor) Chappelow, Corey and Kyle Schmidt, Simon, Nate, and Elizabeth Stone, Gabrielle, Vaughn, and Annika Schmidt, Mikayla and Sean Miller; one great-grandchild, Camryn Chappelow; a sister, Elizabeth (Gerald) Gels; a brother, Frederick (Cindy) Vorwerck.
Besides her husband, Richard Schmidt, she was also preceded in death by a brother Raymond in infancy.
Prayers will be offered at 10:00am Saturday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am Saturday in St. Ann Church with Fr. Larry Tharp celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00pm Friday in the funeral home.
