Opal Harris Sams, age 70, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away peacefully on Monday, December 3, 2018 at her home. She was born in Oneida, KY, to Rich and Helen McDaniel Harris on July 13, 1948. Opal and her husband, the Reverend Marvin Sams, of 55 years, lived in Richmond, IN, for over 30 years.
Opal grew up in Greens Fork, IN. Opal worked for many years in social services and taught Sunday School where her husband pastored in churches in Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.
Her loving survivors include; her husband, the Rev. Marvin Sams, son Vincent (Janet) Sams of Richmond, IN, daughter Helen (Todd) Rachles of Vienna, OH, her brother, Richard “Doby” Harris of Richmond, IN, her uncle, Carl McDaniel, of Richmond, IN; grandsons Richard (Elizabeth) Sams of Whiteland, IN, Thomas (Pam’la Sexton) Sams of Richmond, IN, Christopher Sams of Richmond, IN, Devin Rachles of St. Petersburg, FL, Austin Rachles of Indianapolis, IN; great-grandchildren, Kaley Prickett, Shaylon Sexton, Shanel Sexton, and another great-granddaughter, very much anticipated by Opal, due in the spring.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rich (Old Fuzz) and Helen Harris, brothers, Carl David Harris and Henry Harris.
A private memorial will be held at the convenience of her family in Port Charlotte, Florida. The family takes comfort that she has gone home to be with the Lord and will see her again.
