James Luther Newton, age 82, of Richmond, Indiana, died Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Golden Living Center–Golden Rule.
Born August 1, 1935, in Heidelberg, Kentucky, to Titus and Della Smith Newton, James lived most of his life in Richmond. He worked at Hills Roses and retired from Oberle & Associates, Inc. after 25 years of service. James enjoyed hunting, shooting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughters, Judy Kegley of Richmond and Sandra Buttery of College Corner, Indiana; sons, Jeff (Dawn) Newton of Centerville, Indiana, and Gregg (LeeAnn) Newton of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; grandchildren, Josh, Nathan, and James Kegley, Andy and Jason Buttery, Jimmy (LeeAnn) Brattain, Corey Newton, Chelsea Bright, Sarah (Will) Lang, Emily (David) Green, and Michael Newton; many great-grandchildren; sister, Dinah (Glen) Moore of Liberty, Indiana; brother, Bill Newton of Richmond; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Aileen Bailey Newton, who died October 8, 2007; parents; sisters, Ann Jackson, Lillian Thomas, and Calla Mae York; and brothers, Neal, Virgil, and Charles Newton.
Visitation for James Luther Newton will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Scalf officiating. Burial will be in Elkhorn Cemetery.
