Gordon Pipes, age 91, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Forest Park Health Campus.


He was born on June 27, 1927 in Mt. Vernon Ohio to Carl and Clara Beckley Pipes. He married Viola M. Warne on June 18, 1950. He graduated from Killbuck, Ohio, High School in 1945. He served as a Corporal in the Army Air Corp from 1945-1947 serving in WWII.
Gordon obtained his bachelor’s degree from Earlham College in 1951. He then attended Ball State University where he obtained his master’s degree in education in 1959 and he also obtained a graduate degree in French from Indiana University.
Gordon was a school teacher for many years and had a lasting impact on many of the students that he taught. He began his teaching career at Spartanburg High School in 1953, he then went to teach at Richmond Community Schools in 1959, where he retired from teaching in 1989. The family would like to thank the staff at Forest Park Health Campus for their care and support.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years Viola M. Pipes; sons Greg (Karen) Pipes and Jerry Pipes; grandchildren Christina (Scott) Brechbiel, Emily (Darren) Klein, Jessica Pipes and Trent (Allison Gray) Pipes; great grandchildren Grace and Olivia Klein, Marie Whitely, Addie and Ashton Brechbiel. He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Clara Pipes; brothers Paul and Glen Pipes and sister Lucille Evans.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Private burial will be held at Earlham Cemetery.
