CAMBRIDGE CITY – Ruth C. Cole, 83, passed away January 2, 2017.
Ruth was born in Mt. Polaski, Illinois on Christmas Day in 1933. Because her father passed away when she was three years old, Ruth and her sisters were raised at the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Home in Knightstown from where she graduated high school.
Formerly of New Castle, Ruth had lived in Milton prior to moving to Cambridge City 30 years ago. Ruth was a homemaker, loving wife and mother. She enjoyed fishing and along with her husband Willard, had competed in several BASS Tournaments. Ruth also enjoyed reading in her leisure time.
Survivors include 3 children, Joyce A. (Dave) Swope of Cambridge City, Harland M. (Karen) Cole of Mooreland and Carol J. Ballard of New Castle; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren: 1 great-great grandchild; 1 brother, Charles Brookshire; brother in-law, Raymond (Lola) Cole; sister in-law, Gale Cummings all of New Castle; nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur Cole Jr. on January 17, 2008; 1 son, John W. Cole on July 21, 2007; son in-law, Bert Ballard on November 13, 2016; 3 sisters, Emma Flynn, Harriett Meece and Marie Risk; brother in-law, Willard Cummings.
