Marcia Anne Powell, a lifelong resident of the Hagerstown area, passed away on the 11th of August at her home.
Born in New Castle on September 29, 1940 to Paul and Emma Jean (Smith) Leeka. After graduating Hagerstown High School in 1958, she attended John Herron Art Institute of Indianapolis. Marcia married William A. (Bill) Powell on Valentine’s Day, 1969.
Marcia was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who devoted her life to her family and community. She was most proud of being a homemaker for over fifty years for her husband and five sons. She was employed for eight years at Perfect Circle / Dana Corp. Marcia also drove a school bus for Nettle Creek School for fifteen years. She became an EMT and enjoyed the opportunity to serve her community and touched many lives while working as an EMT for Culberson Ambulance Service, for more than twenty years.
Marcia continued her passion for art as a student and teacher throughout her life. Her mediums have changed but her flair with color remained. In recent decades, she painted on porcelain including dolls and dishes. Marcia’s talents produced awards at the state and national levels. She enjoyed attending painting seminars, both as a student and teacher, resulting in new friends and experiences. Marcia also enjoyed telling jokes, laughing, spending time with family and friends, traveling, drawing, playing cards, canning and cooking.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Powell; five sons, Dr. Joseph Dale (Tonya) of Vincennes, James Dale (Michelle) of Hagerstown, William B. Powell (Kim) of San Rafael, CA, Michael Powell of Brownsburg and Thomas Powell (friend Teri) of Bloomington; a sister, Jeanine Carey (Richard) of Hagerstown; a brother, Paul Leeka (Ginger) of Mount Summit; six grandchildren; one great grandson and many extended family members.
Services will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 18, at Culberson Funeral Home, Hagerstown. Rev. Robert Fannin will officiate. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 PM on Thursday.
