Because of multiple COVID-19 positive students, specifically from the same classrooms, Northeastern Middle School and High School will operate virtually from Oct. 29 through Nov. 11, returning on Nov. 12.
Northeastern families who are directly impacted by the ill students have been contacted by Wayne County Health Department.
The switch to virtual learning was announced Wednesday, Oct. 28.
“Our families, students, and staff have worked hard to keep each other safe over the past 10 weeks and will continue in that endeavor once we return on Nov. 12,” said Matthew Hicks, Northeastern superintendent, in a news release.
The school district will work to provide resources to families during this time, including meals over the closure.
“Any time you have multiple students positive in the same classroom, it is important to take measures to ensure the safety of their classmates,” said Wayne County Health Department Executive Director Christine Stinson in the news release.
Quarantine care packages available
Local residents facing a COVID-19 quarantine and need food might be able to receive a care package assembled and delivered by a new local social services agency in Richmond called Bridges for Life, located inside Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Care packages are designed to provide food assistance to individuals/families impacted by these circumstances.
