Nominations are due April 22 for Wayne County’s Athena awards.

This will be the second year for Girls Inc. of Wayne County to coordinate the local version of the international recognition program.

Athena awards recognize outstanding women who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, community involvement and commitment to empowering others.

Nominees should emulate Girls Inc.’s mission of inspiring girls to be strong, smart and bold, and embody Athena’s pillars of strength, wisdom and courage. They should be role models for girls who have demonstrated leadership, positive impact and service to Girls Inc. or within the community.

In addition to the Athena Leadership Award, an honor is designated for a young professional, ideally age 22-35.

Nomination forms are available at wwn.to/athena26 and wwn.to/athenayp26.

This year’s Aug. 28 dinner again combines the Athena awards and Girls Inc.’s traditional fall fundraising gala into one event.
