Wayne County government’s new voice-over internet protocol phone system has significantly changed duties for one position in the information technology department.
To keep up with those changes, Craig Eason, the county’s IT director, asked the county commissioners during their July 8 meeting for permission to revise the job description for the phone system’s administrator. He also requested the new description be evaluated and assigned a job level by the county’s human resources consultant, Waggoner, Irwin, Scheele & Associates of Muncie. The 2027 IT budget request would then include the position at the recommended level.
Eason worked with the county’s HR department to develop the job description and said the VOIP system contains more technical aspects and, essentially, requires another network administrator. He said the employee currently responsible for the phone network has handled the VOIP transition and is currently fulfilling the role outlined in the new job description.
Commissioners voted to recommend Wayne County Council permit the consultant to review the job description.
Community corrections
Jennifer Romack, director of community corrections, requested commissioner approval to apply for a Drug Free Wayne County Partnership grant.
The money enables community corrections to provide clients with necessities, such as hygiene items or work clothes, to remove barriers for their success.
Commissioners approved the request.
