N. 10th to close May 16 for block party

Townsend Community Center will have a community block party from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 16, blocking North 10th Street between North C and North D streets.

The street closure from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. was approved by Richmond’s Board of Public Works and Safety during its April 30 meeting.

The board also approved weekly closures of the north service drive south of Elstro Plaza for Parks and Recreation Department events. The closures will be from 6 p.m. Mondays through 8 p.m. Tuesdays for the Tuesday Twilight Market from July 7 through Sept. 29, 6 p.m. Tuesdays through 3 p.m. Wednesdays for Food Truck Wednesday from May 6 through Sept. 30 and from 6 p.m. Fridays through 1 p.m. Saturdays for the Farmers Market through Oct. 31.

Street sweeper

The board approved awarding the bid for a new street sweeper to Brown Equipment Company.

Brown’s bid of $261,771 for the Global M3 sweeper included trade-in values of $25,000 each for two 2017 Global M3 units.

Parks requests

Smarrelli General Contract of Richmond was awarded the bid to replace the parks department’s greenhouse roof and 14 other building roofs. 

Smarrelli bid $125,000 for the special greenhouse roof and $186,090 for metal roofs on the other buildings.

The parks department also received approval on two contracts. A1 Concrete Leveling and Foundation Repair of Muncie will be paid $5,400 to repair cracks in the floor of Don’s Cabin, and Anchor Industries will be paid $27,297.90 to provide and install replacement umbrellas at Cordell Municipal Pool.

Rose View approvals

The board approved the sale of a railroad bench to the Richmond Area Railroaders Society for $1. 

The society donated six composite benches for use at Rose View Transit parking garage depot, where the railroad bench has been used.

The board authorized Rose View Transit to apply to Indiana Department of Transportation for Federal Transit Act grant funding that supports operations and capital projects for the city’s public transportation.
